Does Cogeco offer First Nations tax exemption?

Yes, Cogeco offers a First Nations tax exemption.


If you are a First Nations person living on a reserve recognized by the Government of Canada, you may be eligible to have taxes removed from your monthly bill.


Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, you must:

  • Be the sole account holder, with your name matching the information on your invoices.
  • Have your Cogeco service address located on a reserve recognized by the Government of Canada.
  • Provide a clear, high-resolution photo or scan of both the front and back of your Secure Certificate of Indian Status (SCIS) card.



How to Apply
  1. Contact Customer Service: Reach out to our Customer Service team and inform them you would like to apply for a First Nations tax exemption.
  2. Provide Information: Our agent will ask you to confirm your full name, service address, and that you are the sole account holder.
  3. Submit Documentation: You will need to provide the clear photos or scans of your SCIS card. Our agent may send you a PIN to verify your identity before processing the request.



Important Information
  • Please allow up to 14 business days for your request to be processed. We will notify you by email once it's approved.
  • While your request is being processed, you are still responsible for paying your monthly bill, including taxes, on time.
  • Once approved, the tax exemption will apply to future invoices. We cannot retroactively remove taxes from past invoices.
  • If you transfer ownership of your account or move to a new address, the tax exemption will be removed, and you will need to reapply if you meet the eligibility criteria.
