# What happens when I use an Cogeco promo or referral code during checkout?

**Promo Codes: **These codes are for new customers only and provide a discount on your first month of service.




**Referral Codes: **When a friend refers you to Cogeco, you'll both get a reward. You receive a discount on your first month, and your friend gets a credit on their bill after you've been a customer for a certain period.

* All promo and referral codes are subject to specific terms and conditions.
* Referral codes grant the first month free for the new customer and 1 month free for the referrer after the new customer has used internet with Cogeco for 3 months. Promo codes only grant the first month free for the new customer.
