# What is the difference between coaxial cables and DSL/FTTN technology?

# **The difference is quite simple, and it all comes down to how the internet gets to your home.**

Cogeco is a TPIA (Third Party Internet Access) provider and uses
 a combination of coaxial cable and optical fibre. 
The fibre runs all the way to the electrical pole outside your home, with a coaxial cable completing the last few metres into your residence. This combination gives you the best of both worlds: a fast and stable connection that maintains your plan's speed, even during peak usage periods.

In contrast, DSL/FTTN technology provides varying speeds depending on how far you are from the central office. Because of this, speeds can be less predictable and may slow down during peak hours when more people are online.
