Technical points to consider with Cogeco's higher internet speeds.
The Plume SuperPod is recommended by the manufacturer for up to 900Mbps download.
The speed you get also depends greatly on the WIFI capabilities of your personal connected devices.
Not sure that it’s good enough?
It can sometimes feel like you need the fastest speed available, but for most daily activities, you really don't. A lot of our day-to-day use doesn't require much bandwidth at all!
For example:
- Streaming HD content takes about 5 to 10 Mbps.
- A video call with a friend uses about 5 Mbps.
- Streaming music is typically less than 1 Mbps.
Even if you were doing all three at the same time, you would only be using a fraction of your available bandwidth.
Optimizing Your Wi-Fi Speed
Because every home is unique, we can't guarantee specific Wi-Fi speeds. There are many factors that can impact your connection, including:
- Physical obstacles like thick walls, metal beams, or mirrors.
- Other devices in your home, like a microwave that's turned on.
- Interference from your neighbours' Wi-Fi networks.
The best way to get the highest, most reliable speed possible is to bypass Wi-Fi entirely. For devices that need a strong, consistent connection—like a gaming console or a desktop computer—we recommend plugging them directly into your router with an Ethernet cable. This direct connection boosts your speeds and lowers the chance of signal interference.
